In commemorating ASHKs 5th anniversary at The Hong Kong Jockey Club Former Explosives Magazine in Admiralty, the center is proud to present Roaring Guardians: The Mari-Cha Lion with Asian Traditional and Contemporary Art, featuring the remarkable Mari-Cha Lion, a rare mid-11th to mid-12th century South Italian bronze sculpture with multicultural styling, which will be on public view for the first time in Hong Kong.

The Mari-Cha Lion is astonishing for its scale and quality,” says Dominique Chan, ASHK’s head of gallery and exhibition. “It is one of the most important examples of medieval sculpture to have come to light in the last quarter of the 20th Century as declared by many experts.” - Asia Society Hong Kong

The Mar-Cha Lion will be juxtaposed with works of contemporary art from Asia. Three works from the AAN Collection which features the lion as a motif will be included in this exhibition.

Manmade by Basir Mehmood at the Yinchauan Biennial, China

The first Yinchuan Biennale, titled For an Image, Faster than Light, inviting 73 artists from 33 countries, brings outstanding international art to MoCA Yinchuan from 10 September - 18 December 2016. The video installation Manmade by Basir Mehmood which is in the AAN Collection is being exhibited.

The work of Shahzia Sikandar comes to the MAXXI in Rome for the artist’s first Italian retrospective, “Ecstasy as Sublime, Heart as Vector“, curated by Hou Hanru and Anne Paolopoli. A selection of works, over 30 works in various media and idioms (drawing, digital animations, installations), gives a remarkable outline of her artistic journey. Parallax & the Series ‘Portrait of the Artist’ which are both in the AAN Collection are being exhibited at this show.

'Time of others' is a curatorial collaboration between four of the Asia-Pacific region's leading institutions for collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting contemporary art. An exhibition project evolving as it travels between each venue throughout 2015 and 2016, it is an attempt to create a platform for reflecting on social and cultural relations in the Asia-Pacific today.

The exhibition’s title refers to the potential of an image to communicate in multiple contexts, forms, and formats.

Opening Exhibition of the AAN Collection on the Google Cultural Institute, Pakistan, including the works of the Modernist Zahoor-ul-Akhlaque and the contemporary artworks of Shahzia Sikander, Imran Qureshi, Rashid Rana, Aisha Khalid, Naiza Khan & Faiza Butt.

Moment/Momentum – Contemporary Art From Pakistan
This exhibition focuses on the works of Zahoor-Ul-Akhlaque and the Contemporary Artists who followed his lead. Especially since this is the first curated exhibition and would be a glimpse into this collection and the contemporary artworks that sit within its core and embody the ‘Aan’ or the ‘moment’.
